About Shasta Union High School District has three alternative high schools and one continuation high school that offer opportunities designed to meet the diverse needs of our student population. Students that are sixteen years to eighteen years of age and are at-risk of not graduating at one of the comprehensive sites are assigned to Pioneer High School. Students that have been expelled or are on probation may be assigned to Freedom Community Day School. North State Independence High School is a new alternative high school opened in 2003-2004. This school is designed for students who work well independently and want or need an alternative approach to the standard curriculum delivery. Shasta Adult School is for students 18 years of age or older who desire to continue their education and obtain a GED certificate, a high school diploma, participate in family literacy, or enroll in career education opportunities.
District Mission Statement The mission of the Shasta Union High School District is to provide courses of study that challenge all students and encourage them to reach their social, physical and academic potential. Instruction will prepare students for a global society by focusing on career goals and incorporating appropriate technologies. The District will provide a safe environment that stresses tolerance towards diverse cultures, beliefs and lifestyles. Character education and civic responsibility will also be an important part of the curriculum.
