Student Spotlight on:
David Beck
Recent graduate of North State Independence H.S. (November 2005)
Upon arrival at North State Independence High School Dave was an entire year behind in school, having completely missed his junior year. Dave faced a variety of challenges during his early high school years: involvement in violent gang activity, addiction to and selling several illegal drugs, crime, and living on the streets of Hayward. During his 14-month stay at NSIHS, Dave exemplified the model student, displaying an insatiable academic appetite and outstanding work ethic. Dave earned approximately 100 credits during this time and he maintained exemplary grades up until he graduated in November, 2005.
Dave has been an inspiration to me as a teacher, standing as the shining example of what it means to overcome adversity. Dave continues to exude strength and resolve, as he relocated to Redding from the East Bay area in order to begin his life anew. In many respects, he is starting his life over and many challenges still face him as he stays clean and on track in college. I am decidedly confident that Dave has the skills, intelligence and drive to succeed in these endeavors. He has been a great credit to North State Independence High School and he serves as a prominent reason why this school exists.
