About Pioneer High School Credits

Students at Pioneer High School (PHS) earn 1 credit for every 12 hours of positive, productive seat time work on campus with passing grades (at least 60%). These credits are posted at the end of a six week grading period. At a Continuation High School students are also eligible for accelerated credit produced outside of the classroom attendance. Pioneer teachers provide a one page syllabus describing their course requirements and accelerated work opportunities:

  • The maximum amount of outside accelerated credits that can be earned is two and a half credits per grading session in each class, provided the student is attending the class.
  • Students can only earn an equal amount of accelerated credit for the same amount of inside work produced.
  • For example: A student in U.S. History attends everyday and all work is performed at 70% average. Two and a half credits are earned. He also completes 30 hours of accelerated work approved by the teacher. Two and a half credits are earned for this work so the student earns a total of 5 credits for this one class during this 6 week grading period.

At the comprehensive sites (Enterprise, Foothill & Shasta) students earn 1 credit for every 16 hours of productive work with a 5 credit maximum. Pioneer students can earn accelerated credits each semester if they work hard both in and outside of class. This is how students can catch up with lost credits from their previous 9th, 10th or 11th grade school years. There are 230 credits required to complete coursework in order to earn a diploma.

  • All students in the state of California must pass Algebra 1 in order to earn a high school diploma.
  • Beginning July 1, 2005, all students must pass the California High School Exit Exam in order to earn a high school diploma.
