Who is eligible to enroll in Adult Education?
You can enroll in Adult Education if you are over 18 years of age, an emancipated minor, or a pregnant or parenting teen.
Can high school students enroll in Adult Education classes?
High school students are allowed to concurrently enroll in Adult Education. Interested students should see their high school counselor for approval and information. You may also call the Adult School for information.
What is Adult Basic Education?
These classes are for students who may have had difficulty in school or did not finish for some reason. Classes are taught at all levels. All students are tested at the time of enrollment and placed in appropriate classes that will meet their particular needs. Students progress at their own pace.
What is the High School Diploma Program and who can take these classes?
These are the classes that lead to a High School Diploma. All classes that are necessary for a diploma are offered. Not all classes are offered every session, but most students’ needs can be met. These classes are open to all eligible students wishing to complete a High School education or improve their skills.
What classes do I have to take and how many credits do I need to meet Adult Education Diploma Requirements?
Students need 180 credits in the following courses*:
- 40 English
- 30 Math (10 Algebra/10 Geometry/10 other)
- 30 Social Science, World and U.S. History, Economics, Government
- 20 Science (10 Physical/10 Biological)
- 10 Fine arts (Drama, Art, Ceramics)
- 10 Practical Arts (Keyboarding, Computer classes)
- 40 Elective

What is the process for taking the GED test?
Students must first contact the Shasta Adult School office to register. The GED test is given at least once a month. There is a fee of $125.00 (make-ups are $25.00 per test).
The test is usually given the second Tuesday and Wednesday of the month at 5:00 p.m. Space is limited; it is advised to register early.

- North State Indepedence High School and Shasta Adult School’s 2007 Graduation Commencement will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday, June 7th in the David Marr Auditorium at the Shasta Learning Center. Congratulations to all 2007 graduates!
